how to prepare for rcmp depot

this will be my first time in 27 years away from ottawa longer than a 3 week period lol … so i am not sure what i should expect! my experience was that i had several men in my troop who didn’t give a fuck about what the girls said. don’t do the catty “you’re my competition” thing and just work as a team. the adjustment happens quickly bc you’re thrown in full tilt and you have to figure it out. comfy clothes and a few going out outfits bc you need nachos at the canadian brew house every so often to survive. bring an extension cord, ear plugs and an eye mask. hardest obstacle was the stress and the massive amounts of “why am i even doing this?” it can be a bit of a game and you just gotta do it. depot will be the best 6 months of your life you never want to do again. do the homework, practice the skills, be prepared for tests. if your troop mates come back drunk on a friday night its gona be noisy and you want sleep.




and those times the janitor turns the lights on at 8am on a saturday the mask is great. as long as you follow instructions well and have a basic level of physical coordination you’ll be fine. get your own pillow and use that to sleep so you don’t mess up your one for drill. i was in bed by 9pm on average and had my weekends free. i am male but i found the female members of my troop were not treated any differently and were well respected. i know some of my troop mates struggled with the trigger pull of the pistol so maybe invest in one of those hand worker out things. just before i got there a guy caused himself a injury so bad he was sent home two weeks before grad and he never got his badge. i graduated two years ago and i remember crying in my pit for the first few weeks. as they say, the days are long but the weeks are short. and don’t bother with an iron until you get there.
