the chinese experimental post baccalaureate teacher certification program prepares speakers of chinese (mandarin) who are already certified as teachers, or have a bachelor’s degree, to teach chinese language and culture in american schools. this full-time, two-year teacher preparation program will provide candidates with the knowledge, skills and support to develop into a highly effective teacher of chinese. following successful completion of the initial summer pre-internship field experiences, candidates are required to be in a teaching intern apprenticeship placement for a full (k-12) school year in a michigan school district, as interns must attend courses on campus one day a week.




in fall semester, candidates will apply for the master of arts in teaching and curriculum (matc) program and complete the teacher residency application and interview process. chinese experimental post baccalaureate teacher residency and master of arts in teaching and curriculum (matc) course of study note: applicants interested in the residency program will apply for the chinese experimental post baccalaureate teacher certification program. candidates who choose to only pursue certification are ineligible for both the chinese experimental post baccalaureate teacher residency financial support and the federal teach grant. students who have completed (or are completing) the chinese experimental post baccalaureate teacher certification program can apply for admission to the matc program through msu’s teacher education department for a master of arts in teaching and curriculum (matc) program.
